Responsible for the Metabolomics platform

The Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares Carlos III (F.S.P.) CNIC has been conceived to develop research of excellence, competitive and of international relevance in relation to cardiovascular diseases. The CNIC has a research center of 24,000 m2, located in Madrid, with more than 6,000 m2 for laboratories equipped with a state-of-the-art infrastructure and equipment.

CNIC is seeking for a highly motivated and talented candidate with a strong background in metabolomics and lipidomics sciences. A post of "Senior Technician" is advertised. The candidate will direct and coordinate the metabolomics platform within the CNIC Clinical Trial Coordination Unit.

Functions:

  • Lead the daily operation of the metabolomics platform at the CNIC
  • Implement the metabolomics/lipidomics services
  • Implement and yearly update of service fees
  • Conduct and coordinate metabolomics/lipidomics studies inside the CNIC with emphasis on methodologies and expertise related to mass spectrometry
  • Engage with other CNIC research groups to design, plan and execute metabolomics/lipidomics studies
  • Develop and optimize novel methodologies to simultaneously measure large numbers of analytes in biological samples including small molecule biochemicals, metabolites and lipids
  • Setting up in-house untargeted/targeted metabolomics/lipidomics workflows
  • Implement quality assurance and SOPs for metabolomics/lipidomics studies in a production capacity
  • Train and supervise lab technicians’ students and other researchers
  • Manage projects efficiently to meet timelines
  • Contribute to writing grant proposal and scientific articles
  • Contribute to strategic scientific and technological development within CNIC objectives

Mandatory Requirements:

  1. Ph.D. in chemistry or equivalent life science
  2. At least 3 years of experience in managing metabolomics/lipidomics core facility or equivalent services’ platform or research in these areas.
  3. At least one year of postdoctoral experience in a different institution from the PhD

Valuable Requirements:

  • C1. Experience in analytical chemistry, particularly in HPLC/UHPLC/GC coupled to mass spectrometry.
  • C2. Experience in shotgun lipidomics.
  • C3. Experience in targeted and untargeted metabolomics and lipidomics, including sample preparation, analysis optimization, method development and data analysis.
  • C4. Experience in carrying out metabolomics/lipidomics experiment with LECO GC-MS and Thermos Orbitrap-MS instruments.
  • C5. Experience in conducting large scale metabolomics study.
  • C6. Underrepresentation of gender by category, in accordance with Action S1 of the 2021-2024 Equality Plan, POSITIVE ACTION IN CALLS FOR POSTS

The RESOLUTION OF THE SECRETARIAT OF STATE FOR PUBLIC FUNCTION APPROVING THE COMMON ACTION CRITERIA FOR THE RECRUITMENT PROCESSES IN THE STATE PUBLIC SECTOR ENTITIES of April 11, 2022, set forth in point 6.1 that “Unless a specific regulation establishes a merit-based recruitment system (concurso), the competition (concurso-oposición) must be the recruitment system”

In CNIC, the specific regulations approved by the Foundation's board of trustees establish a merit-based recruitment system (concurso) including a personal interview.

At least the 3 candidates with the highest score, as long as they reach the minimum of 65 points as a sum of criteria (C1‐C5) will be interviewed. The candidate with the highest score will be hired given the total score (C1-C7) is higher than 80 points.

  • C1. Experience in analytical chemistry, particularly in HPLC/UHPLC/GC coupled to mass spectrometry (experience will be valued as a whole based on the time/specialty of known techniques). 25%
  • C2. Experience in shotgun lipidomics (experience will be valued as a whole based on the time/specialty of known techniques ). 10%

Experience in targeted and untargeted metabolomics and lipidomics, including sample preparation, analysis optimization, method development and data analysis (experience will be valued as a whole based on the time/specialty of known techniques and number of known techniques and strategies). 30%
  • C4. Experience in carrying out metabolomics/lipidomics experiment with LECO GC-MS and Thermos Orbitrap-MS instruments (experience will be valued as a whole based on the time/specialty of known techniques and number of known techniques and strategies). 5%
