After completing her studies in Biology and Molecular Biology at the University of Murcia, Amaia Talavera-Gutiérrez relocated to Madrid to undertake a Ph.D. at the Spanish National Center for Biotechnology, under the supervision of Professor Carlos Martínez Alonso. Supported by an FPI fellowship, she conducted her doctoral research in the field of somatic cell reprogramming to pluripotency. During this period, Amaia gained international exposure by working in laboratories outside Spain, including a stay at the Juan Carlos Izpisúa Belmonte lab in the Salk Institute (San Diego, USA). In 2022, Amaia successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis, receiving an International Mention and the highest qualification -SobresalienteCum Laude. With the intention to further apply her expertise in stem cell biology and CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, she joined Dr. Jalife’s lab in September 2023 as a postdoctoral researcher. Her current work focuses on generating isogenic human pluripotent stem cells lines that will allow the study of molecular mechanisms underlying cardiac arrythmia.
