Mª Piedad obtained her degree in Biochemistry in 2000 at Universidad de Granada. After that, she worked for one year in a food industry quality control laboratory at Lactalis Forlasa, SL (Villarrobledo, Albacete). Her research career started in 2001 at the Instituto de Biología Molecular y Celular (IBMC) from the Universidad Miguel Hernández and the Hospital General Universitario de Elche (Alicante), obtaining a PhD Fellowship from the FIS (Fondo de Investigaciones en Salud). During the PhD period, she studied the apoptosis mechanisms induced by histone deacetylase inhibitors in chemoresistant cancer cells. She graduated as a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology in 2008 (at Prof. José A. Ferragut’s and Dr. Miguel Saceda’s laboratory) at Universidad Miguel Hernández. In 2006 she was hired as a researcher at Dr. Vicente Micol laboratory at IBMC, where she worked in a project aimed at the systhesis of litic immunoliposomes for the treatment of breast tumours.
In 2009 she joined Dr. Ricote’s laboratory at the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares (CNIC) in Madrid as a postdoctoral researcher. During this period she has been involved in the study of the Nuclear Receptor role in inflammation, autoimmunity and myeloid cell differentiation. Since 2015 she works as Assistant Researcher at Dr. Ricote’s laboratory, extending her expertise on innate immune cells and molecular biology in order to decipher the role of the Retinoid X Receptor (RXR) in hematopoiesis and tissue resident macrophages.
