Prof Carlos Morillo is a cardiac electrophysiologist, and served as the Chief Division of Cardiology (2015-2023) at the Libin Cardiovascular Institute, University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and currently on an academic sabbatical leave.. Since 1990, he has extensively researched Chagas and was involved in the initial studies related to autonomic control in the different stages of the disease and the use of beta-blockers for treating patients with Chagas Cardiomyopathy. He was also one of the first physicians to document the ablation of the pulmonary vein region as a strategy of experimental AF treatment. Prof Morillo's key areas of research are related to the development of clinical trials in the area of cardiac arrhythmias AF ablation, screening and detection of AF in varied populations, syncope and treatment of Chagas Disease.

He is currently joining Cardiac Arrhythmias and Advanced Development in Arrhythmia Mechanisms and Therapy Laboratories at CNIC as a part of his sabbatical leave to exchange his wide experimental training and knowledge in the cardiac arrhythmia field with the groups lead by Dr. Jalife and Dr. Filgueiras-Rama.
